LIMITED ACCESS
This property is hemmed in by a creek along one side, by Hoover Ave on another, and private homes on the west side. The only ingress and egress for the entire development would be along Adeline or the lower gate on Hoover. Hoover and Columbus are a de facto cul-de-sac with an already difficult to negotiate tight turn in the loop--there is no way it could handle additional traffic. Adeline is a narrow residential street lined by homes. It is not a broad street like Hillside Dr, nor a thoroughfare like Trousdale where large developments have been built recently.
HEAVY TRAFFIC
With the addition of 75-80 new Mercy Housing units plus the expansion of senior care units, we estimate at least 120+ new residents will be living at Mercy. Most likely these residents will be commuting to work, wending their way through Easton Addition streets to access I-280 and El Camino Real. To compound the traffic generated by resident drivers, there will be also a large number of support staff commuting to the property, including nurses/aides, kitchen staff, cleaning & maintenance workers, on-site administrators, and visitors. Delivery trucks and increased garbage pick up should also be factored in as well as transport to and from medical appointments and services. Our neighborhood simply cannot accommodate this type of traffic safely.
POOR SITE SELECTION
Putting a large development at this particular site is an incredibly poor decision. Unlike other sites for most high density housing, this area is far from public transportation or transportation hubs, retail or grocery stores, and medical services. This requires residents to drive from the property to get access to daily needs, increasing the volume of traffic through residential streets.
SAFETY ISSUES
Adeline is a route that elementary school children walk and bike daily to get to both Hoover and Lincoln Schools, as do children going to Burlingame Intermediate School. A steady flow of morning and afternoon traffic to and from Mercy High School is already a safety concern--the projected increase in traffic is extremely worrisome.
